Shearwater Adventures celebrates 40 years in 2022! Started in 1982 by Tom Carter and Lori Wilson, Shearwater has a long history of offering fun, educational, and exceptional experiences on the water in the San Juan Islands.

Now led by Jeff Zbornik and Corey Homewood, we continue to provide high-quality kayak tours and lessons on Orcas Island.

Over the decades we have seen other kayak outfitters come and go, while we have grown bigger and better. Our commitment to safety, guide training, respect for wildlife, and strong ties to the local community have remained cornerstones of the business. We are proud of our safety record and support of marine conservation in the islands. Our kayak tours and lessons have introduced thousands of people to sea kayaking over the years.

One of the pleasures of being in business for so long is sharing the experience of kayaking and the islands with new generations. We now have guests who tell us they first kayaked with Shearwater with their parents years ago. Now kayaking is a lifelong hobby, or they have returned on vacation with children of their own. We have also had second generation guides leading our tours as they become young adults.
